Who can get an Australia ETA?

Holders of eligible passports, such as the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. Other nationalities — or anyone who needs a longer stay — apply for the Australia Visitor visa (subclass 600) instead.

What can I do on an ETA?

Holidays, visiting family and friends, and business visits such as meetings and conferences. You can’t work, and study is limited to three months.

What documents do I need?

By default a clear copy of your passport bio page and a recent passport-size photo, plus an email for your approved ETA.

How long does the ETA take?

ETAs are often granted quickly but can take a couple of days — apply before you travel.

How long can I stay in Australia?

Each visit can last up to three months, with multiple visits allowed over the 12-month validity.

Do I need to print my ETA?

No. It is linked electronically to your passport — travel with the same passport you applied with.

What if I get a new passport?

The ETA stays with the old passport, so you apply for a new one with your new passport before you travel.
