Canada Diplomatic Visa

For these diplomats and officials to visit Canada on business, the Canadian government established the Canada Diplomatic and Official Visa. These diplomats and officials must have diplomatic or official passports and be citizens of a nation that requests visas for entry into Canada.

Documents you need before you apply for Canada Diplomatic Visa are listed below

  • the necessary paperwork needed for any visa to Canada.
  • Choose one of the following:
  • A written request from the ministry of foreign affairs of the nation to which the head of the mission or post is accredited, or whose visa issues fall under the purview of the diplomatic mission or consular station.
  • a written request from your government's diplomatic mission or consulate;
  • a formal request made in writing by one of the international organisations included in the temporary worker guidelines.
  • A letter from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Secretariat, addressed to the diplomat or official, and bearing the Secretary General's signature.
  • A declaration letter from you to the Canadian government outlining your requests for diplomatic immunity.
  • 2 recent passport size photographs

Eligibility Diplomatic Visa Canada

To be eligible for a diplomatic visa, you need to fall under one of the following categories

  • a head of state or a representative of a group having head of state responsibilities. If you are the Head of State, the Head of Government, or a minister in a foreign government cabinet, your family members are eligible to travel with you to Canada on a diplomatic visa. Family members of Heads of Government are also eligible to travel with you to Canada if they are: Diplomatic agents travelling to or from diplomatic missions or beginning temporary missions in Canada;
  • career consular officers travelling to or from consular posts or beginning temporary missions in Canada;
  • Delegate from one of the international organisations specified in the Temporary Foreign Worker Guidelines, including delegates attending these organisations' conferences but excluding administrative staff;
  • senior officer of an international organisation specified in the Temporary Foreign Worker Guidelines, such as the secretary general, assistant secretary general, or equivalent positions;
  • Member of the family or household of a diplomatic agent or a senior officer of the Secretariat of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) at the P-4 level or higher; foreign diplomatic courier; special case permitted from the Headquarters of the Diplomatic Corps Services (XDC). Individuals who fit into one of the following categories are granted official visas:
  • member of the service staff of a diplomatic mission or consular post in Canada; member of the administrative and technical staff of a diplomatic mission or international organisation;
  • You have a diplomatic or official passport and have been invited to a conference in Canada by the federal or a provincial/territorial authority;
  • You are a contractual worker, such as a translator hired by the United Nations or the International Civil Aviation Organization for one of their organised assemblies, or you are an official or specialist on a mission who is acting on behalf of an international organisation listed on the Temporary Foreign Worker Guidelines;
  • Private servant of a member of a diplomatic mission or consular post with a completed and submitted Household Domestic Worker Employment Agreement form from your employer who is a GAC Protocol member.
  • a person who is a member of one of the officials' families.

Keep in mind that if you don’t fall in any of the above categories then you have to apply for any other types of visa.
