Work visa for Malaysia

Foreign people who want to work in Malaysia must get a work visa for Malaysia. The complete procedure of gaining permission to work in Malaysia, i.e., obtaining a Malaysia work permit, is referred to as a work visa. Before being able to work in Malaysia as a foreign national, you must first locate an employer there. Then, on your behalf, your employer must submit an application for a Malaysia work permit. You cannot begin working in Malaysia until the authority bodies in charge of awarding work permits for international employees approve the application.

In addition, there are many sorts of work permits available in Malaysia depending on the profession and duration of the job.

The Government of Malaysia provides 3 types of visa to foreign nationals:

  • The Employment Pass: Foreign nationals who will work in a Malaysian company in a highly skilled role, such as a technical or managerial position, are given a Malaysia Employment Pass. Your employer in Malaysia must get permission to hire you from the Expatriate Committee or another pertinent regulatory body before you may receive an Employment Pass. Depending on the particular situation or length of the job, this kind of Malaysia work permit may be issued for a period of one to five years. It is also renewable.
  • The Temporary Employment Pass: The Malaysia Temporary Employment Pass is granted for a maximum of two years of employment. It is given out for the next two categories:
  • Those who hold a Foreign Worker Temporary Employment Pass are only permitted to work in the industries of manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture, and services. Additionally, this kind of Pass is only available to citizens of recognised nations.
  • Only female employees from recognised nations are eligible to receive the Foreign Domestic Helper (FDH) Temporary Employment Pass. If the employer in this scenario has young children or elderly parents who need to be looked after, the foreign worker would work there.
  • Professional Visit Pass: Foreign citizens who are still employed by a foreign company and wish to work in Malaysia for a limited time (up to 12 months) are given the Malaysia Professional Visit Pass.
